June 25th Friday evening was the kickoff of the Clothes Show London 2010 at Earls Court, as a whirl of glamour, fashion, and beauty started to embark on the streets of the City. Those in attendance ranged from Paloma Faith, Dave Berry, and George Lamb all of whom were a part of fashion festivities.  Exhibitors were also on hand to make sure everyone had something to enjoy from Fred Perry to Beyond Retro to Miss Selfridge and Jaegar. Adding to the fun was an indoor beach created by Corona that saw people drinking their beers on the sand, while La Sense showed off the summer swimwear fashions on the catwalk every hour. The international style spotlight shone at the Glasgow Science Centre this week as part of the Scottish Fashion Awards 2010.  This is the fifth year of the gala which was organized by founder Tessa Hartmann. Malcolm Edwards, the Ayrshire born celebrated hairstylist who has seen his work on many of the leading magazine adverts such as Burberry and Prada became a member of the Hall of Fame. Scottish Designer of the Year was Jonathan Saunders, and pop star Paolo Nutini was Scottish Style Icon of the Year.  Also taking honours was Royal College of Art graduate Holly Fulton who received the Young Designer of the Year award for her work with jewellery inspired by architecture. Lingerie Sales

Sophie Anderton is said to be popping out on the catwalk this week as part of the Contour Fashion Show in London held by the Leicester De Montfort University in their first annual event. The show will feature nineteen bodywear and lingerie designers from the future at both the DMU Fashion and Contour Design and Contour Fashion courses.  The catwalk event will take place in Covent Garden at Freemason’s Hall. The students are all third year and will watch their garments come to life on the runway during shows scheduled at 4pm and 7pm with Anderton due to model an outfit that is part of the evening show.  She will also be in attendance at a special VIP reception after the fashion show ends. The winners of the Graduate Fashion Week were announced at the Earl’s Court gala show this week, as students from all over the country came together to show their collections off at the event.  The final day of the week was the night of the awards gala and the award of the much anticipated River Island Gold Award. Winner of the coveted award was Manchester University School of Art student Rebecca Thompson who impressed the judges with her muted collection of ruffles and bows paired with chic shirt dresses and tailored trousers. Thompson was chosen by the panel of judges which included GQ Editor Dylan Jones, ELLE editor in chief Lorraine Candy, and Alberta Ferretti.   Her award also came with a casual £20 for her efforts. Gucci announced that Sarah Burton will take over as creative director in the wake of Alexander McQueen’s death which occurred in February of this year. Although some thought that Gucci would not be able to carry on without him after the fashion designer committed suicide, the owners of the luxury brand quickly moved forward to find a replacement, given the fact the brand still has a huge commercial potential. Burton’s appointment is little surprise to those in the fashion world as she was the right hand of McQueen and in October presented the introduction of his last partially finished collection for the Paris Fashion Week. At the time of McQueen’s suicide, the 16 outfits were only 80% complete, but Burton took over with a design team of five and saw them through to critical acclaim from fashion critics.
