Catherine Walker, fashioner designer to Princess Diana died on September 23, at the age of 65.  Apart from designing couture fashion for notable women such as Joely Richardson, Shakira Caine, Darcy Bussell, and Queen Noor of Jordan, she designed more than 1,000 outfits for Diana. Catherine Walker avoided too much public scrutiny during her career.  This is so unusual for a someone in the fashion world that her evasion of fame may have garnered her more attention than her admission to it.  She hardly ever gave interviews and did not display her fashions on the catwalk.  Her no-nonsense approach to fashion kept her at its pinnacle of the business for a long time. Catherine did not like the undue trends in fashion and did not give into them.  She said that fashion was fast moving, but uniform at a time   Read More ...

Anyone who has ever worn an article of clothing made of cashmere already knows the allure of this ultimately luxurious fabric.  Made from the soft undercoat of small goats that first derived from the mountains of Kashmir, this woven fabric has been worn by emperors, kings and queens for centuries, and is still the mark of royalty in the fashion world. With the feel of silk, the warmth of wool and the look of absolute elegance, cashmere is lightweight and supple, but offers the warm protection of a much heavier garment.  Because the fibres are so slender, they can be woven into any design and shape, and one of the most desirable forms is that of womens cashmere dresses.  By its very nature, cashmere has a soft and flowing look and feel that simply cannot be found in artificial, manmade   Read More ...

London Fashion Week is always entertaining and often dazzling, and the latest production also proved to be a lot of fun.  This week’s 2011 spring/summer showing featured some of the most outrageously appealing designs ever, with Giles Deacon’s pink prom dresses and plus-size models in the forefront. Giles is the name of the line, and the man’s lack of pretension and flair for ingenuity turned the catwalk into a delightful parade of designer cartoons.  His models looked healthy and happy as they strutted around in floral prints, pink crystal fringe and feather hats. He also incorporated googly-eyed animals and sticking plaster prints, corset-top evening gowns and pompoms.  There seems to be no place Giles Deacon won’t go, and he can take you right along with him.  His finale was a long elaborate gown worn by the 71-year-old ‘60’s supermodel “Veruschka”,   Read More ...

Victoria Beckham is no longer an ex-pop singer wanting to be a fashion designer.  She has become a fashion designer.  Two years ago, when she announced that she was designing dresses. She was just a curiosity to the fashion world.  Since then, her fashion design shows have become a hot event. Her fifth collection is impressing editors and buyers alike.  It reveals a designer on the pulse of fashion trends.  She has sacrificed corsetry for fluidity in fabrics and shapes.  By achieving this change she has demonstrated her talent to remain in step with the often-fickle transformations in today’s fashion world.  This is a necessary insight for any label that wants to survive volatile trends. The iconic work boot turned mens fashion must have -Caterpillar boots are back, and just in time for the cold September weather. Caterpillar has launched their new autum winter 2010 range with people floating through the air in the style of The Matrix. But what has caught our attention is the new Caterpillar Depict Hi mens boots, featuring a very clever Caterpillar tread sole design. Not only does it look awesome, but it provides excellent grip as well -something often said to be lacking from Caterpillar’s classic Colorado boot.
