London Fashion Week has never been so . . . interesting.  Vivienne Westwood rocked the runway at the Royal Courts of Justice on day three of the show with her interpretation of Alice in Wonderland for high fashion.  For anyone who thought her new autumn/winter collection was influenced by the upcoming royal nuptials, Vivienne said no, she’s not planning to dress the bride.  Her comment was that Kate Middleton will have to catch up on fashion trends before she’ll be a good subject for Westwood’s creations. The rest of us can choose from an intentionally bizarre array of suits in checks and tartans, shorts ensembles featuring glamorous boxers complimented by tights or knee-high socks and brilliant jerseys or leather jackets.  The models stressed a messy hair look, some wearing curlers, some with crown-like hats made of wire or soft droopy   Read More ...

In London’s West End, near Carnaby Street, Debenhams have opened their first pop-up shop on Newburgh Street. The department store’s newest collaboration called Editions, will be showcased. A £1,000 a month lease was signed with Shaftesbury and contains a six-month rolling break after a month’s prior written notice. Fitting in with the Carnaby Street target and brand demographics, Editions was embraced by Shaftesbury even though there were other options such as Covent Garden and Marylebone High Street available. This new and exciting concept will add much needed buzz to the Newburgh Quarter. The Editions shop showcases women’s wear collections from Jonathan Kelsey, Jonathan Saunders and duo Preen and was opened just before London Fashion Week on February 10.

George Davies, high street fashion designer, is negotiating with WM Morrison about designing a line of clothing for the grocery chain, looking to take their first step into fashion retailing. Wanting to expand from just selling food, Morrison’s chief executive, Dalton Phillips could put a feather in his cap if he lands the high street designer to design their line of clothing. Davies left Asda in 200 to launch Per Una and it has been over 10 years since he designed for a supermarket retailer. His recent venture, GIVe, has not taken off too well and this could atone for that if he were to launch a successful line for Morrison’s. GIVe, a take on George IV, was not accepted by mass-market customers due to being expensive and high-end. Never a corporate man, the often difficult and mercurial Davies is   Read More ...
