becksh Alexander McQueen remembered at Costume Institute gala ballThe expectations on the red carpet were quite high at the biggest fashion date on the calendar – The Costume Institute gala ball of the Metropolitan Museum of Art whose theme was the late fashion icon Alexander McQueen.

The A-listers were not disappointing as they wore the British designer’s wares wonderfully. Stars such as Selma Hayek and Sarah Jessica Parker were only two of the countless that attended and proved that the late designer was not considered a genius for nothing.

Supermodels such as Gisele Bundchen look superb wearing a scarlet piece from the autumn of 2005 and Crystal Renn sported a beautiful geisha inspired hairdo and a ruffled gown. Parker wore a gold embellished piece that hugged her figure while Daphne Guinness was dressed in nothing but feathers which was the finale of the fashion show’s collection earlier this year, designed by Sarah Burton.

Naomi Campbell also sported McQueen Couture as she wore a bespoke number fashioned by Sarah Burton. Even the designer herself was decked out in a white gown hosting an empire waistline and embellished in gold.

Other designers such as Stella McCartney shined as well. Madonna wore a slinky gown with stars cascading off her back and was considered the best she has worn in years and Iman wore a pantsuit from the same label.

Eva Mendes also was in McCartney in an asymmetric dress with knife pleats and the wonderful Gwyneth Paltrow wore a taupe column with long sleeves and a high neckline. Ms. McCartney co-hosted the event with Anna Wintour.

Other stars included Hailee Steinfeld, the 14 year old star of True Grit who was in brown lace and Rihanna who wore a figure hugging lace gown that just completed her flawless body.  Even Jessica Alba’s pregnancy did not stop her from being one of the most elegant in a Ralph Lauren gold strapless styled by Brad Goreski, Rachel Zoe’s former assistant.
