American clothes retailer Banana Republic is about to become very popular with fans of the popular television show Mad Men. The company has announced that they will be teaming up with the costume designers on the show to release a line of clothes in the style of the immaculately dressed characters. The show is set in the 1960s and follows the workers at an advertising agency.
Janie Bryant designed the clothes for the shows characters, including the perfect gowns worn by Betty Francis and the stunning work dresses worn by Joan Holloway. She has said of the announcement, “We will be launching a range of clothing for both women and men. Today people feel comfortable leaving the house in a tracksuit but in the 1960s this was simply not done.”
The clothes will be designed for the modern market however, and will be for people to wear to work. Simon Keen from Banana Republic has said, “What’s important here is the way in which they wore the clothes, tailoring was very important.”
Bryant has been nominated for an Emmy award for her work on Mad Men and has described the new clothing line as “exciting.” The line will launch this August.
