It has been proved that 55% of what message we want to send is projected visually. That is why our image does play in our personal and professional lives. There are certain tricks of the trade that only your stylist knows. But it is possible to become your own stylist without having to shell out big bucks.
The problem with us is that we a re too critical. The first thing we see when we look at ourselves in the mirror is that we wish we were thinner, taller, had slimmer thighs, heart shaped hips and the like. We have to be affirmative. That is the key to looking good. Its most often than not the dress that makes us feel the way we do. It hides our beautiful parts and may even emphasise our flaws. It is important to tell yourself image building things. Focus on strong points. A good stylist will always advise you to find your natural look and develop that. Ditch whatever doesn’t work with you. Don’t save it for when you are 15 pounds lighter. That day might come but it will go just as quickly.
Be sure of your natural contrast. Check the colour of your eyes, hair and skin. Are you arm or dark? See how your features contrast. If your skin is light but hair is dark and eyes medium to dark, then you have a very high contrast in your looks. If your skin is medium light, your hair is medium brown and eyes medium dark, then you obviously have a medium contrast look. Your contrast is low if your skin, hair and eyes are blended softly. A light skinned person with light eyes and light hair is a low contrast person but so is a person with dark hair, dark eyes and dark skin. But if it contrasts with the whites of your teeth a lot then the contrast is wide here. The ranges are infinite.
Now that you have figured your contrast, work with it. Your clothes should not overpower you. If the contrast of your clothes is really low, you’ll get washed away and so will the message that you are trying to send. It is important to match your clothes with your contrast. A high contrast person can wear colour combinations like white and black or pink and navy blue or even ivory with dark brown. A medium contrast person can wear camel and brown mixed together or orange with brown. But if you are low in contrast, stick with clothes that are softly blended with each other.
Work with your texture. Enhance what nature has given you. If your hair is curly, accessorise it with ribbons and pins. Wear heavy corduroy. If your hair texture is medium, go with suede and if its straight, smooth satin and velour is the way to go.
The last main point to remember is how to work accessories into your look. You should not go with too much. Always keep it simple unless you are a loud person and want to project that image. Always remember that you can send the wrong impression with the clothes that you wear. Make use of your complexity, contrast and texture and have fun! Enjoy your look and you’ll never have to pay for advise again.

Once you understand the theory it’s relatively simple. Basically as I understand it you need to show off your best bits and try to create an hourglass sillhouette?! That’s what this online personal stylist service told me anyway! Makes sense I guess. The hardest bit is knowing what colours suit you.
