Burberry is joining the virtual advertising and marketing trend by creating a new interactive website and joining both Twitter and the Facebook.
Their new website, ARTOFTHETRENCH.COM will be anchored with both Twitter and Facebook to celebrate their timeless trench coats. The site will feature the work of some of the best photographers on the globe, who were commissioned to catch people wearing trench coats in real life starting with the work of Scott Schuman who is known as The Sartorialist.
Members of the website can submit their own photos and images of Burberry trench coats and share them with other fans of the classic trench coat company.
Creative director of Burberry Christopher Bailey said that the aim of the website is to celebrate the trench coat and capture the emotion behind the heritage of the coat.
The first designs for the company were by Thomas Burberry for officers of the British army in 1914. To date the trench coat is still one of the top selling items of the popular retailer.
Bailey also said that he loved the idea of people sharing their stories of what their first Burberry meant to them. It was this exchange of stories that brought the new website and Facebook inspired link to life.
Visitors to the new website will also be able to comment on their favourite pictures and share the photos across Twitter as well as Facebook.
Other British brands that have turned to social media for advertising in the recent years include Mothercare and Marks and Spencer.
