Eyebrow piercing is one of the latest fashion that is considered ‘cool’ in the young generations. This is a type of piercing done mainly through the eyebrow and that too vertically. These are one of the most common facial piercing and can be done on the edge of the eyebrow or directly above the eye. Eyebrow piercing is considered to be one of the safest types of piercing as are not easily irritated. It normally takes 6 to 8 weeks to completely heal the wound and it is strongly advised to keep away the wound from all kinds of makeup and beauty products as they might cause infection. Even if the jewelry is removed after healing is over, the piercing generally closes within a time lapse of 24 to 48 hours.
Taking care of eyebrow piercing
Taking care of eyebrow piercing is much like ear piercing. Till the wound is not completely healed, adequate care should be taken as to keep the area clean and sans from beauty products.
Getting the eyebrow disinfected twice daily is the most important thing. This should be mainly done in the morning and at the night. Use of an anti bacterial soap to clean the area is advised. Application of a disinfectant on the ends of the ring is also necessary. All kinds of petroleum based products should be strongly avoided as these products hold on to bacteria and might cause infection. The tightness of the piercing is also a matter to be taken care of and should be checked daily. After the application of the disinfectant, the use of a gauge pad is recommended for the first few weeks.
The formation of a scab during the healing process and drainage of the piercing during the healing process is a very common thing. The jewelry acts like a drain and thus, it should always remain in its place. It the placed jewelry is too large to act as a drain then it should be replaced by a smaller one. If the jewelry is removed before healing is over it might leave behind an infected hole. Drainage of the piercing is a very common thing but if it is found that it has turned into a darker and thicker discharge, then the doctor should be consulted immediately.
Along with the drainage, bruises are also very common after the piercing. Bruises take some time to show up and there is nothing alarming in it. The piercing usually causes damage to the tissues of the eyebrow and as it is very close to the surface the internal bleeding is shown very easily. The bruise may turn to yellow colour, but is should be remembered that very often older bruises turn to such a colour. It is also advised to put a little ice pack on the bruise which will tender the swollen tissue. All kinds of make up to cover up the bruise should be strongly avoided as they cause infection. It is also very necessary to watch out for clothes getting caught in the jewelry while dressing up. Clean and loose fitting clothes are always welcomed at such a situation.
