It’s often been known that quality costs extra whether it’s a Television or a pair of shoes you generally get better quality with the more money spent. But in these unstable financial times not many of us will be able to afford the higher quality goods and so many people will turn to non-brand items or the risky choice: fakes.
On the surface fake designer goods can give off the image of having quality but without breaking the banks, the trouble is that when it comes to fashion the fakes are often easy to spot when you look a little closer. Slight differences on labels such as being made in different places such as China; where many fakes are made en masse to cash in on new trends.
How deep does this “faker” trend run? Well many people searching through auction site eBay have found out the hard way that when you order something that seems too cheap to be true invariably means you end up buying some sort of cheap knock off. One prime example is designer watches such as Rolexes and Jacob & Co, once the mainstay of dodgy beach vendors on holiday they are now all over the internet at a fraction of the price.
Some people may argue that if it looks good enough then there’s not really any harm in buying fakes, the trouble is that the craftsmanship in these items is obviously less than the originals and can sometimes lead to items falling apart or breaking easily, it’s well known that fake jewellery can leave unsightly green marks on your skin and is often a telltale sign that something is of a lower quality and possibly even dangerous.
Designer handbags and other high-fashion items like Ugg boots are other often-aped products. Handbags by Louis Vuitton and Gucci are popular targets for the fakers but many people are finding it harder and harder to spot the fakes from the genuine article. In the past it would be true to say that if you bought a fake then it would not have any tags and probably fall apart before the week is out. Now there are so few differences between the fakes and real ones that the only difference appears to be the price.
Obviously if you buy anything online then you are taking a gamble as to whether the item you receive lives up to the pictures, if you are able to contact the seller ask for pictures of the actual item rather than any promotional pictures from a company website. At least then you’ll be able to better judge the item before committing to buy.
In general many people who want the genuine item will be wiling to pay the price, but if you are more frugally minded and don’t mind having a look-alike handbag or watch then buying a fake may be the better option. As with many items it’s best to check out the items before you commit.
