Fashion Gossip

FILES-GERMANY-HEALTH-ANOREXIA-CAMPAIGNBrigitte the influential fashion mag from Germany announced that it will not use professional models in its shoots anymore. The announcement has received mixed reviews with some stating that the magazine is not doing enough to discourage anorexia.

When quickly flipping through the magazine it looks like any ordinary fashion magazine as it features young women that are made up flirtatiously and attractively showing off clothes.

However, a second look and viewers will notice that here and there are women with wrinkles and even some with a bit of a tummy, as the magazine will not use size zero models anymore.

Editor Huber stated that the magazine aims to feature a wide range of diversity within its pages choosing to work with women between the ages of 20 to 45 who work in normal careers such as restaurateurs, receptionists, and teachers.

Huber said that the magazine hopes to show the real interests of real women and show readers’ healthy women’s bodies instead of promoting anorexia among young girls.

At the moment the magazine has been met with a wide response from readers with over 20,000 women filling out applications to be selected as models for the popular magazine.

However, critics are not so gracious about the change stating that the women the magazine chooses to use are still overly attractive and not a fair cross section of society.

Others said that the move is simply a PR campaign with little focus actually on inspiring young women to be healthy with their body.
