A recent announcement by Marc Jacobs has said that he thinks its best that he does not move across to the fashion house Christian Dior. For many weeks now, the fashion world has expected him to be the replacement for John Galliano but Mr Jacobs has said that he fully intends to stay at Louis Vuitton where he feels happy and he is comfortable that he has made the right decision. Mr Jacobs commented, “I’m very honoured to have been considered to take the helm at Christian Dior and I’m very grateful that people think I’m such a capable designer. Currently though I am very happy at Louis Vuitton and I have so much work left to do here that I can hardly think about leaving just yet, I have barely started.” He did, however, also comment that it was   Read More ...

After making numerous anti-Semitic remarks back in March, John Galliano was sacked from Christian Dior. There is now much speculation over who will be taking his place in the famous company. Reports are coming up on WWD that Marc Jacobs is talking with the fashion house to take over as its creative director. Bernard Arnault is CEO and Chairman of LVMH, the French parent company of Dior. It seems that he will be making changes by moving someone from within the company to fill the empty role. Marc Jacobs is currently a designer for Louis Vuitton and the role he is leaving behind is likely to be filled by Phoebe Philo. There are other top designers who are also rumoured to be contending for the top job at Dior. This includes Alexander McQueen designer Sarah Burton, Lavin’s Alber Elbaz and   Read More ...

The Bourse de Commerce, with its towering and impressive glass and iron dome, was the setting for the showing of the Lanvin spring and summer 2012 collection. With music accompaniment from the score of the Dark Knight, the show evolved into a huge success. Menswear designer, Lucas Ossendrijver, and creative director Alber Elbaz both provided a truly magnificent collection for the occasion. Opening with heavy shoulder military style outfits, the audience was treated to a show of clothing that SWAT officers and night watchmen would favour, on or off duty. Strong bonded leather pieces and webbed belts were also a feature. Trousers were tucked into boots. Tight fitting knitted pullover shirts with cleverly folded neck pieces were shown at different times. Car coats with an extra collar covering plus a variety of hooded jackets in technical style were also featured   Read More ...

The door to flamboyant designer superstar closed when John Galliano was suspended by Christian Dior and the new fabulous at the Paris fashion week is normal again. Stella McCartney’s latest collection of flat shoes, chunky sweaters and knee high skinny skirts was heavy on clothes worn by women and very light on theatrics and it is refreshing to see McCartney ready to include a long sweater dress and black coat on the runway and not be in denial of what is life before cocktail hour. For those that dwell on the red carpet there were sheer and daring polka-dot dresses and for evening slivers of sheer mesh in navy and black panels of elegant sheaths. The catwalk theatrics welcome was overstayed as many chief executives are learning what consumers have known for decades smart money is in wearable, believable clothes.   Read More ...

The Dolce & Gabbana catwalk show was undaunted by the scheduling conflict with the Oscars, and with the continuing case charging them with tax evasion. But is true, at least in Milan, that the show must go on. All the celebrities were preoccupied with their introspective ceremonies in Hollywood, leaving them out of the audience at this fashion show. The Milan show was not in the spotlight, so even those few who were not at the Oscars were not going to go out of their way to make an appearance in Milan. An innovative entertainment was the alternative for the audience with smart phones or BlackBerry’s. They were allowed to make comments and when posted Online, they would appear on the big screen over the catwalk.
