Make sure the dress is long enough, preferably right at the   Read More ...

Pierre Cardin, the venerable and legendary French couturier, had a few comments to make on the current state of clothing design.  At a show in Tokyo this week, the 88-year old designer told interviewers at a press conference that he thinks bringing out new collections two times a year is much too fast. Cardin feels that with the multitude of designers competing in the fashion industry, a lot of what is produced is just a fad, not really expected to last for more than a season. When Pierre Cardin first launched his designer clothing line back in 1950, everyone told him he was attempting the impossible.  Clearly he has proved them wrong; his label is a touchstone throughout the world of high fashion, not only for clothing but also for many other elegantly designed products. He was the first Western   Read More ...

Before job sites advertised creative jobs in Arts and Media, the fashion industry was a difficult industry to crack without knowing the right people.  However, applying for jobs in this area is now at your digital disposal. It is, understandably, an appealing market - the haute-glamour and gloss that glow from Vogue’s editorial spreads are enough to kick-start interest in sartorial success. Few other worlds boast such a colourful and mysterious cast of characters – from Dame Vivienne Westwood and her corseted-punk collections, to Karl Lagerfeld and his suits of solemn black – it’s a world of big personalities and pretty people. An initial intrigue may be perked by the high-end charm of the industry, but those who want an in would do well to acknowledge the hub of activity buzzing beneath and beside the Big Shots. Although Paris, Italy, and Milan are all known respectively as fashion capitals as the world, to forget the talented designs that come out of the United States would be a crime against fashion.  There are many talented designers that live come from the shores of the New World; consider the following as a highlight of the possible top five. Oscar de la Rente is perhaps one of the most recognisable names in American Fashion, and the most established, with famous fashion design work that ironically was created mostly in Europe.  However, given the fact that he was actually born in the Dominican Republic, and has contributed to fashion from various locations all over the world, his American birthright has to be paid notice considerable respect. Many fields have become defined by the presence of major chains and corporate entities. Whether it is the huge high street  banks (which have failed so spectacularly in recent months!), sprawling dining brands or household fashion names, it has become increasingly difficult for people to differentiate themselves from one another as the as independent chains are driven out by big brands. Of course, the eternally hip fashioner will always stay one step ahead of the game  – these days frequenting vintage and retro clothing outlets as likely from the major chains. For the likes of you and me, however, getting reasonably fashionable clothes has become {much easier when leading-edge trends are available from supermarket chains alongside the weekly grocery shop. Despite the accessibility of quite decent fashion, the  basic human need to be different influences our taste and choice. More   Read More ...
