Jewellery

1 Jewellery ... the secret behind every beautiful outfitIn the world of fashion, there are numerous claims about what makes the “perfect” outfit. Whilst in most cases the choices made over fashion are subjective, there are some elements which are always found at the heart of every beautiful ensemble.

Jewellery is undoubtedly one of them and is capable of being both bold and understated. For some individuals, rings, bracelets and necklaces fit seamlessly with their clothing. For others they stand out as vibrant accessories intended to attract attention.

Choosing your jewellery can therefore be something of a challenge. Whilst certain items such as your wedding ring might be a permanent fixture of your look, other items will change on a daily basis.

Selecting your style

When crafting the perfect outfit the first thing you need to decide on is your style. Different types of jewellery suit different personalities and this is something you’ll need to give a little bit of thought to. Companies such as Goldsmiths have plenty of beautiful items of jewellery which suit all tastes and budgets and a quick browse of their website will certainly provide plenty of inspiration.

For the conservative dresser, simple jewellery is the best option. Small encrustations of jewels look stunning on plain metals and you can always opt for traditional clusters of diamonds or an alternative gemstone depending on your taste.

For those after something a little showier there are plenty of bolder options. From rings with large jewels protruding from a central setting to exquisite Lucet Mundi crystal and hematite bead bracelets and layered necklaces, Goldsmiths stock an impressive range of beautiful accessories.

For those who want to stay one step ahead of the fashion curve, 2013 trends indicate that styles inspired by the Victorian period will regain popularity, as will designs using geometric shapes and sharp lines. Thick metal chains are also expected to prove staple additions to any jewellery box while the obsession with modern charm bracelets is unlikely to decline.

What to look for in jewellery?

Once you’ve selected your style and decided which trends (if any) you intend to follow then you need to find appropriate products. Goldsmiths is a reputable retailer offering plenty of assurances over quality but exactly what features should you look for?

The first is strength of materials and quality of manufacturing. Always consider the fastening mechanism used on any items of jewellery too and the quality of any settings or engravings. You’ll want your jewellery to last a long time so it’s important you spare a thought for care and maintenance too.

All jewellery needs to be cleaned regularly and Goldsmiths can take care of this for you if you’re worried you lack the expertise. If buying diamond jewellery, they even offer a ten year guarantee which provides an annual inspection and clean free of charge for a ten year period – you can’t get much better service than that!

Collecting charms

September 6, 2012

1 Collecting charmsCharm bracelets have long been a popular gift choice among parents, as they give you a reliable fallback for future birthday and Christmas presents, while helping to mark the passing of the years as your child grows older.

However, plenty of adults also enjoy collecting charms, and specialist websites like Fabulous Collections are filled with new designs and old favourites to help you to expand your collection. The more well known charm designers such as Nomination charms from Italy, Pandora and the beautiful range fromThomas Sabo often come attached with a designer price-tag.

So, what are the basics of building the ultimate charm collection? Here’s just a couple of things you might want to think about…

No such thing as ‘perfect’

The whole point of collecting charms is that you can add new pieces whenever you feel like it – so your collection will never really be ‘complete’.

However, if you’re desperate for a sense of closure in at least one area of your collection, there may be sets of matching or complementary designs available to buy, which can also make it easier to decide which charms to put on your necklace or bracelet for any particular occasion.

Don’t forget the essentials

While some people simply collect charms as curios or objets d’art, most of the time you’ll want to make sure you have some way to wear them.

Luckily, the options are almost as flexible as the charms themselves – and although a bracelet is the obvious place to start, there are alternatives.

Charm necklaces give you somewhere to hang several of your favourite pieces, or something to mark the occasion – a champagne-bottle charm for a wedding, or a pair of tiny shoes for a christening.

And if you’ve already got a favourite necklace you want to embellish, you can just buy charm carriers to thread on to it, without causing any damage to the chain.

A matter of metal

Like any jewellery, charms aren’t just about the design – so if you’re buying one as a gift, make sure you know what metal the intended recipient prefers.

Gold or silver, or a combination of the two, are the likeliest options, but you can also find glass and crystal charms too, which can add much-needed variety to an otherwise all-metal collection.

Colour comes in the form of precious stones, and sites like Fabulous Collections let you search by colour, too, so if you’re buying for a pink-obsessed young lady but the specific type of stone isn’t a concern, it’s still easy enough to find something that suits her tastes.

The personal touch

Charms aren’t just for girls – you can find plenty of rugby and football-themed designs, for instance, and of course there’s no reason why you should stick to the gender stereotypes when you’re buying for yourself or for a loved one.

The important thing is to express your own personality, even if you’re the one giving the charm as a gift, as the vast number of different designs means you can really show the amount of thought you put into your choice – and everybody knows that it’s the thought that counts, right?

Article Courtesy of Links of London

Links of London happens to be a company that supplies jewellery both for men and women. The firm was set up by John Ayton and his wife Anouhka Ducas in the year 1990. The account of how the firm came into existence is quite interesting. It all started when a restaurant owner requested for handmade fish cufflinks. The requester wanted to give the cufflinks to her loyal customers as a way of rewarding them. In no time the cufflinks became very popular and it attracted the attention of other jewellery brands. Later, an exclusive fashion shop, Harvey Nichols placed an order and bought a complete collection of the cuff links. This was how the company came into existence and today it has become a true global brand and their products are available in shops across the United Kingdom, Canada, USA and Hong Kong.

As stated earlier, Links of London supplies an assortment of both women’s and men’s jewellery, consisting of varieties made of sterling silver plus 18 carat gold. Their series of men’s cufflinks are very popular around the world, but they are also known for their charm bracelets which have special appeal to the women folk. Their charm bracelets are available in different styles and colours and they are made with different materials. This means a lady will find whatever style she wants to suit any event she wants to attend, whether it is an informal social event with friends or a cocktail party.

Apart from the high quality products mentioned above, the company also offers her clients a wide variety of silver and leather items according to their preferences. These items could be for the customer’s workplaces or their homes. Links of London products also make for perfect gift items so you can present them as gifts to the ones you love.

Additionally, Links of London provides an optional engraving service on every jewellery item purchased by the clients. Customers can use this to add a personal touch to the gifts and other items they buy. In addition to this, they provide customers with superb gift wrapping or packaging service. All the items you purchase will be nicely wrapped up and boxed with lovely bows and ribbons.

Even though Links of London had its origins and has become very popular in the United Kingdom, over the years the company has expanded its scope of operations and is now doing business in different parts of the world. It is arguably the most desired brand in the world today, basically due to the remarkable high standards plus timeless quality of their products.

So whether you intend to buy jewellery for your loved one or for yourself, Links has a wide variety of items for you to choose from. All the designs of jewelleries they offer are highly innovative and modern, and they feature appealing shapes in silver and gold, commonly adorned with gemstones. You can wear them to any event, and they would give you a modern appearance with formal outfit. You will also find several pieces that are appropriate for everyday wear, like watches and rings.

Celebrities and regular consumers alike are united in their love for diamond rings. There is something about these gleaming gems that captures the imaginations and stirs the passions of individuals around the world. Whether they are wedding rings, engagement rings or any other type of item, they can help their owners stand out from the crowd.

One woman who does not shy away from such jewellery is Sharon Osbourne. According to reports in Yorkshire paper the Star, a ring that used to belong to the television host, author, businesswoman, music manager and promoter may have been found by police. The item went missing in November 2004 when the Osbourne family home in Buckinghamshire was raided.

A number of pieces of jewellery were taken, including Sharon’s wedding band. The burglary took place when she had rocker husband Ozzy were asleep, but he was woken by the disturbance and nearly apprehended the thief. However, despite having him in a headlock at one point, the criminal managed to get away with his heist.

The belongings had not been seen since. However, recently, a police raid in South Yorkshire found £1 million worth of jewellery, one piece of which was a £200,000 gem.

The item was shown on the BBC’s Crimewatch programme recently in a bid to find out who it belonged to. Moments after the footage was aired, Sharon’s daughter Kelly Osbourne, who appeared alongside her parents and brother Jack on reality TV show The Osbournes, posted a message on Twitter claiming that one of wedding rings shown belonged to her mother.

In her message on the micro-blogging service, she said that her high-profile mum had been in tears upon discovering the band had been found.

She remarked: “Thank you Crimewatch – my mum is over the moon. That’s her wedding ring. She cried with joy because she can get it back.”

However, head of South Yorkshire Police’s economic crime unit Graham Wragg said his force had not yet been contacted the Osbournes or their representatives. He stated: “Nobody from Sharon’s camp has been in touch with us yet.”

The official added: “We are waiting for Thames Valley Police to get photographs of what has been reported missing so that we can check against the jewellery we have found.”

In the police raid, which took place in Doncaster, a number of diamond rings were found, as well as watches, bracelets, necklaces and earrings.

Kelly Osbourne was not the only individual suggesting she may know who some of the items belonged to. In total, 56 phone calls were received on the night, along with more afterwards.

Anyone who purchases or owns expensive jewellery of any kind, whether it is engagement rings or anything else, is advised to ensure they keep the items safe and it is often wise for them to invest in insurance in case the items get lost or damaged, or, as in the case of Sharon, are stolen.

Meanwhile, anyone who wants to purchase gems can head online. These days the internet is considered one of the best ways of sourcing such items.

British jewellery brand Gorgeous Gold has celebrated the 25th anniversary of London Fashion Week with the launch of 25 new pieces for its Autumn /Winter collection.

gorgeous gold black onyx and bead collar Gorgeous Gold Jewellery New Season Collection

Gorgeous Gold is an extensive and glamorous collection of individual pieces designed to complement any look. Gold mixes with a range of semi-precious stones, pearls, crystal and beads to create lasting designs which become staple accessory essentials, enduring season after season.

This new collection of 25 pieces takes inspiration from many different influences and eras. For example, the white gold and onyx pieces create striking monochrome accessories, perfect for the graphic prints that abound this season, and yet the pendant combines this almost stark strength with softer design cues from the Aztec era, reminiscent of high-end designer Eleanor Ford.

In contrast, bejewelled rich colours for this season adorn fashionable collars and glamorous drop earrings. With amethysts nestling amongst exquisite gold pieces, the sophisticated ‘Captivate collection’ from Gorgeous Gold is perfect for understated glamour for the festive season.

The designer behind the brand, Vicky Bather says “It was a joy to work on this new collection; with so many fashion trends around at the moment, I had an abundance of influences to choose from, it gave me a real freedom. Autumn / Winter is the perfect time to indulge my love of creating sumptuous pieces as they are perfect for decadent Christmas party looks. However I also love the sharp graphic lines that are prevalent this season and the monochrome White Gold & Onyx pieces in the collection are my personal favourites.”

These new pieces start at £69, with the Captivate Yellow Gold Baton & Amethyst Collar the most expensive item at £469. Gorgeous Gold is available nationwide from independent jewellers.
