Watches

Harrods and Tissot have taken window shopping to an entirely new level by teaming up to create the first interactive window for trying on the high end Swiss watches without ever entering the famous department store or touching an actual watch.

The window display is located at the Brompton Road side of Harrods and allows shoppers to pause as they pass the shop to try out the curious looking device on the store window.  The premise of the device is similar to the Wii or the Xbox Connect as it invites potential customers to put a lightweight plastic highly technical wrist strap onto their arm.

After the wrist band is on all that is left to do is hold the strap up to the mirror and what you will see looking back at you is a reflection of yourself, only in place of the black strap is a Tissot watch of your choice from the T-Touch or Ladies collection.  The gadget is so advanced that when you move your arm around the screen the watch moves with it giving you the feeling that you are actually wearing the watch that is in the screen.

The interactive screen also takes ‘trying on’ the watch a step into virtual reality, given that you can touch the window to try out all of the gadgets on the watches the same way that you would if you were actually holding the watch in your hands.  On display until April 24th, even if a Tissot watch is not in your budget this is one display that you will want to see.

Rado Ceramic Exhibition Rado launch new ceramic ranges of timepiecesImagine a material that is aesthetic, hypoallergenic, ultra hard and scratch resistant – Previously only known for its heat resisting powers Rado brought this revolutionary material to the watch making industry and developed it into the material of the future. Rado pioneered the use of high-tech ceramics with the first ceramic serial produced watch collection Integral in 1986, the first  full-ceramic watches Sintra and iconic Rado Ceramica, and the latest  award-winning design collection r5.5.

Rado went above and beyond by constant research resulting in the successful production of high-tech ceramic watches in different colors and with different surface treatments to obtain exquisite finishes.

Now, Rado have created another industry first, the Ceramic Exhibition. An impactful and interesting insight into how their award winning timepieces are produced.

The Ceramic Exhibition takes the watch back to the beginning of its life. The unique exhibition is a clear step by step demonstration of the high tech ceramic process – from the powder to the product, showing the complexity of the use of this material.

It explains in a simplified and visual version this fascinating process. The initial step involves the standardization of the ultra fine ceramic powder. To this a binding agent is added, along with pigments that give the ceramic its color, to form the granulate. Melted and then accurately injected into a mould, the shape of the watch is defined. The material undergoes the sintering process whereby it is heated to below its melting point and reaches its actual  size and hardness. Diamond tools must be expertly used to treat the surface of the case until ready for the final assembly. Each step strictly adheres to the exacting high quality standards that Rado demands.

The ultimate result is a scratchproof, durable, non-allergenic and luxurious timepiece with a unique design.

Following on from its successful introduction at Milan’s Zona Tortona Design Fair, Rado is now making its Ceramic Exhibition a permanent fixture in stores across the globe.

Let Rado share with you their expertise and take you on a journey with the high-tech material that they have pioneered and perfected for the last 20 years!

“Unrivalled knowledge. Unlimited Spirit. Rado.”

Diesel Watches

March 20, 2009

The diesel brand has been around for a couple of decades and is today an innovative company manufacturing jeans and casual clothing alongside accessories. It is present in over 80 countries and their over 50 company owned stores.

The popularity of diesel watches comes from its urban look and it makes a perfect kooky fashion statement. They are in a league of their own in terms of fashion for both men and women. New and ever more stylish designs are what people are looking for and Diesel is where they know it will be found.

Diesel’s chronograph range includes digital, fashion and pocket watches, highlighting materials that are durable. There is the signature design that Diesel is famous for and the perfect combination of time piece and stop watch. Today’s lifestyle including gym visits and extensive fitness schedules means that a chronograph watch is a great choice for the body conscious individual.

Leather cuff watches have been fashionable for a while now, and combined with a digital face with superior graphics it’s perfect for the modern man or woman. If a more professional look is required a stainless steel strap is spot on in the high fashion stakes. Diesel produces a huge range of digital watch faces, that can be black, yellow or white and numerals large or small. You can even get a blue dial showing the time in vivid red numbers.

The traditional analogue watch is still very popular and here too, Diesel has something to offer everyone. Choose from a selection of leather or metal straps and pick a plain face or an intricate design. There truly is a watch for every imaginable occasion and a style to match every outfit. Often a Diesel watch is more like a piece of jewellery than a simple watch for telling the time.

For Ladies this is a great way of altering your look, ring in the changes with a different stylish time piece with every outfit you take from your wardrobe. Some styles are even designed to have additional bracelets or cuffs that can easily be changed around. It seems like the design team at Diesel have thought of just about everything.

Sometimes it’s just nice to be different, diesel watches are made to last a lifetime but selecting a new style can make a pleasant change. Even men, who like to have things that are solid and reliable, can benefit from a funkier strap or a more colourful face to tell them the time.
