The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show actually took place back on November 11.  A taped version was aired on television, but it was still thrilling to see the new wings sprout. The wings are actually individually created by designers.  There are 21 sets of wings in all, so not every girl gets to where them.  Part of the fun is in seeing who got wings (and who did not) and which wings they wore. The wings are worn as a brace with a strap around the waist and arms.  They can be quite a bit to carry down the runway.  By example, watch Chanel Iman doing a great job with her bubble wings.  She looks light enough to take off, even though those wings way a little more than 25 lbs. With 21 pairs of wings and 34 girls, there’s room   Read More ...

French luxury brand Pyrenex Premium are set to make their UK debut this September with a  fifteen day pop-up store opening from the first day of London Fashion Week. The scene will be in Dover Street’s Air Gallery which will be transformed into a ‘boutique éphémère’ for France’s number one feather manufacturers to showcase their exquisite collection of down-filled jackets. Conjured up by couturier Alexis Mabille, who was given creative carte blanche to fuse the impeccable quality and traditional techniques of Pyrenex with his unique, imaginative brand of haute couture, the Pyrenex Premium collection marries an urban sensibility with an altogether more frivolous, whimsical brand of luxury. Described as “a breath of fresh air in the realm of puffy-styles often associated with off-mountain lounging”, Pyrenex Premium is the perfect fusion of performance and luxury.

High fashion got a prelude during last week as designers displayed their spring-summer 2011 collections for second lines with lower prices on the eve of haute couture displays about to debut in Paris. Vivienne Westwood the British madcap, AF Vadencorst the Belgian design duo, and Anne Valerie Hash the French designer all offered up their most accessible, commercial lines.  For the most part the lines were composed of light knits in layered styles that resembled outfits that most people would wear. Referred to as Paris Fashion Days the event was designed with the aim of offering second lines a chance to get seen on the glamour scene. Exhibitions director at Pret a Porter Paris, Muriel Piaser, stated that before this week designers were embarrassed to show or promote their second lines.  The Pret a Porter Paris organized the weekend event   Read More ...

London shopping centre, Westfield London,  is bringing the excitement of one of its fashion shows to life for the online community, with the use of new video technology- ‘hotspotting’. The interactive technology has been applied by Westfield London to footage of the recent ‘Greatest Fashion Show on Earth’ catwalk show, featuring clothes from designers and brands including Twenty8Twelve, Ted Baker, Karen Millen and Hobbs. The creation of this digital catwalk means that anyone who could not attend the event can now watch the show from a virtual front row , while the ’hotspot’ element allows viewers to click on any piece of clothing that catches their eye and instantly find out more information about the item. A landing page, which is unique for each item, gives the viewer all the information they could want: how much the item costs, who   Read More ...

Last month London was set for its Fashion Week to begin – the celebrity front row was in place, the famous models at the ready and the beautiful clothes ready to make their debut down the catwalk, just a couple of things missing – the eye-watering price tags and the designer labels. That was the end of the show then, you might think, but you’d be wrong – it was only the beginning. Model Erin O’Connor strutted down the catwalk at the Saatchi Gallery, wearing an outfit from the high street store Reiss. Other retailers on the runway included French Connection and New Look. The off-schedule show launched O’Connor’s campaign with the fashion magazine Look which was to make the high street part of the “elitist” London Fashion Week. O’Connor, who was once the vice-chair of London Fashion Week, said:   Read More ...

The new autumn/winter fashion trends shown at Milan Fashion Week seem to indicate optimism and audacity. After a serious decline of 15 percent last year, Italy’s fashion industry is coming back strong. The emphasis at the January showing was on ‘new’ to the point of avant-garde in many cases. A lot of fur, touches and splashes of bright colors, and big time creativity made for a spectacular presentation. Designers and directors are looking at the economy in general and to some extent they are thinking of who can afford to buy their creations and what will appeal the most. Neiman Marcus fashion director Ken Downing mentioned the idea that women love new additions; they aren’t likely to buy something they already have. If this is true, the options are certainly out there. The collections presented striking contrasts and mixing of   Read More ...

Layering was one of the top trends during the New York Fashion week last week on its sixth day using fabrics that when compiled together created a textured look. Designers Alexander Wang and Peter Som both used it on models that looked as if they emerged from closets wearing their entire wardrobe. Another popular trend was sleeves that contrasted with the rest of the outfit either separated by colour or by fabric which was seen on designs by Derek Lam and Chris Benz. In order to get these fashions right, you will need a long sleeve t-shirt to slide under these designs and a nice roomy coat to go over top of it. Another notable titbit from last week’s fashion week was the Roderte runway drama, which showed insiders how Laura and Kate Mulleavy have become big names in fashion   Read More ...
