Fashion Stores

The event titled “Wearing Your Sunday Best” and was held at the Old Post Office in Newcastle’s Pink Lane. It was conducted by The House of Seduction as part of their Newcastle Fashion Week celebrations. The fashion extravaganza event had the catwalk showcasing risqué dress and lingerie that was seductive to add zing to the show.

Swimwear “vintage style” and lingerie were the main fashion wear that adorned the stage. The event had a photo-shoot with a difference done by Pearman Photography. The models had their hair done up by ND Make-up that gave them the looks of the 40’s. There was music added to the show by Scarlet Street as well as a set of DJ’s.

The event had begun in the day with the catwalk taking place in the Northumbria University campus where TV reality stars were also present on stage. Ollie Locke from Made in Chelsea beamed by E4 channel and Lauren Pope from The Only Way is Essex aired by ITV2 being the reality stars to host the show.

On Saturday there was Caryn Franklin, known as the ID Editor and former Clothes Show presenter, who had hosted the catwalks. There was also Victoria White, the Company magazine editor who gave a talk on the first steps into the fashion field.

To commemorate the fashion week, Van Mildert would be selling their designer goods at just £10 today. This process of selling off excess fashion stock at throw away prices is common in London, Milan and New York. For Newcastle residents however, this is the first ever occasion.

The sale would be going on at the Fat Buddha restaurant on the Swan House Roundabout. Claire Lake from Van Mildert expects to have a large queue for the items they are going to put up on sale. For premium ticket holders there is also going to be an exclusive show of collections from Vivienne Westwood, Armani Jeans, Stone Island, Ralph Lauren and many more top designers.

Little Mix, previously known as Rhythmix and currently being hailed as ‘the new Spice Girls’ are having quite a good year. The UK’s hottest girl band will be performing at T in the Park in July, along with a slew of other big and almost-big names in pop music. The girls have come a long way from X Factor tryouts, and not just in their music, but also, they say, in their sense of style and fashion.

The girls, Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock did not start out as a group; they auditioned separately on X Factor in 2011, but none made the cut as soloists. Judges decided to give them a group shot – in two different groups – and that didn’t quite do it either. But when the four were given their chance as one group they won, and the rest is (ongoing) history.

Little Mix was the first girl group in X Factor’s eight years to make it past the seventh live show and the first to win a series. The winning single, Damien Rice’s ‘Cannonball’, topped the charts and the girls went on to join judges Gary Barlow and Tulisa Contostavlos on stage as X Factor was awarded Best Talent Show at the National TV Awards in January 2012.

In between hit singles like ‘Wings’, ‘DNA’ and ‘Change Your Life’ the group produced an autobiography called Ready to Fly that was also a hit. Now they’re recording ‘How Ya Doin’ with Grammy Award winner Missy Elliot, which they all claim is the high point of their lives so far.

As for style and fashion, the girls also agree that X Factor wardrobe choices were ‘a disaster’ and they are finding individual styles that suit them much better. Jesy says she didn’t know or much care how she looked in those days, but now she’s into a lot of colour and combinations. She’s also into “ . . .bright lips and big, full eyelashes.” She loves make up and long eyelashes – and for sure all the Little Mixes are colourful, and their fans are loving it.

MS Wedding Outfits Fashion tips for a royal inspired weddingMS Wedding Fashion Fashion tips for a royal inspired weddingWith the start of spring and the warmer weather many women are starting to consider dress styles for upcoming events, including summer weddings.

Often the bride and groom set a theme for the wedding and, with so many great dress options available for guests, finding the right dress which also fits the theme can be quite hard to decide on.

Elisa Rhodes is the Assistant Dresses Buyer at M&S who recommends doing your research prior to selecting your wedding guest attire.

Inspiration for wedding themes this year is likely to be taken from a number of current events, for example the 1920’s look is predicted to be popular (perhaps due to the upcoming UK release of The Great Gatsby film) and so is a royally-inspired wedding theme.

Here, Elisa provides her top five tips for dressing for a Royally-inspired wedding theme:

-          Navy and gold are set to be a popular colour theme for weddings this year due to the last royal wedding and the elegant, regal connotations of the colours.

-          Navy offers a sophisticated twist on black whilst giving a slightly less conservative look

-          Lace fabrics are also big news for wedding wear this year after Kate Middleton stunned in her gorgeous lace wedding dress

-          Avoid any dresses which are too low cut – if the Duchess of Cambridge wouldn’t wear it, then it’s probably not fit for a royal-esque wedding

-          Don’t forget a pair of nude or cream court shoes, a simple shoe which matches most outfits (and is a trusty staple favourite by Kate too)

Why not take a look at the current selection of navy and gold dresses online at M&S here:  http://www.marksandspencer.com/Dresses-Womens/b/43091030

1 Setting a trend for online shoppingThe world of technology just keeps getting better. Before the days of the World Wide Web we were forced to trudge out in rain, sleet and snow to fight over the last remaining parking space, weave between the crowds on the high street and more often than find that those killer heels we wanted to purchase were out of stock.

Then came the days of the first online stores. Slow loading websites, poor quality graphics and a map needed to navigate the no returns policy. But as we reach 2013 a new breed of online shopping is available – and it’s setting a trend for the future.

Shopping hours

With the birth of the contemporary breed of online stores, our shopping hours have extended. We can work a 9 till 5 job, drive home, pick up the kids from football practice then find the perfect outfit for our Saturday evening off. We can even read and compare other online shoppers’ experiences with the products we’re looking to purchased. There is a wider choice of brands to be found on online that could never be found in your local area too. Stores which may be located over 50 miles away can now be reached from the comfort of our own living rooms.

Online stock

In one swift action we can purchase a whole outfit; online shops are not limited to only stocking sports wear, you can browse and buy your underwear, shirts, dresses, trousers, jumper, jackets and shoes – the ultimate shopping experience in one simple scroll down menu.

Most online stores will offer free next day delivery to the same country and a free tracking service. Over the festive season many offer extended delivery to your home and some firms also offer collection services.

Like most of our local shops they will also offer you a full refund if you are not one 100% happy with your purchase; if you have any problems are queries click on the link to customer service where a support team dedicated to helping you is ready and waiting.

With Victoria’s Secret officially opening in London the £1.5bn lingerie market is really starting to heat up as M&S, Agent Provocateur, and Victoria’s Secret are battling it out for women’s money.

What is interesting about the lingerie market is the fact that it is one area where people continue spending despite the market outlook. For instance, Marks & Spencer has seen their clothing sales deteriorate, but they are still managing to maintain their 27% of the lingerie market. Woman simply are fickle about where they buy their knickers.

This is due to the fact that underwear for most women is a very emotional purchase and one that oftentimes means buying a five pair of knickers for practical reasons and then the occasional sexy pair of knickers here and there. While women are choosing to go to value retailers when it comes to winter woolies and kids’ clothes, they will still spend the extra money for good underwear from M&S.

The truth is that they simply feel comfortable with the brand they have worn for ages, and even when times are tough there are certain things that you just do not want to cut corners on. It appears that nice knickers are one of these things.

Plus, knickers are a great recession proof treat since you can buy just one pair as a nice treat to one’s self. Therefore, while you may not be able to go out and come home with new clothes, you can probably afford to pick up a new pair of sexy underwear to make you feel better about yourself.

Now that Agent Provocateur and Victoria’s Secret have arrived in London, women have more choices and likely this will create an emerging market battle that woman are going to come out the winners from, and a few lucky men.

The first indication, for many of us, that Christmas is just around the corner, is the numerous ads appearing on the television for everything from soft drinks to toddler toys. While some of this may be accompanied by a grimace at the thought that we really need to get our acts together and start putting our Christmas plans into action. There, are, however, those adverts we look forward to as they make us feel Christmassy and put a smile on our faces.

The Debenhams Christmas adverts most definitely fall into the latter category, as their message is put across in such a neat and succinct way that it evokes the Christmas spirit in all of us. This year is certainly no exception, and with the theme of Christmas made Fabulous, we see a young woman experiencing all those small but far from insignificant things that make her perfect Christmas.

As she passes through a town on her way to the railway station she sees a stunning gown in a small shop window, sees a group of revellers on a balcony, passes some girls all dressed up for a night out and next to the station in the one lit room of an otherwise darkened building, there are clothes designers hard at work. She smiles at the guy on the train trying to wrap a handbag then stairs wistfully out of the window as she approaches home.

On embarking from the train it starts to snow and as she gets closer to her home a tree suddenly lights up, closely followed by the entire outside of her home. A small boy rushes out to meet her and she is home. In the theme of the ad, Debenhams want to hear about your special Christmas moments, and by watching the video online you can click the link to enter the competition, and get the chance to make your own Christmas fabulous.

Well regarded fashion house Daffy’s Inc. is to shut its doors for good in the next few months. The budget design chain is in liquidation as a tough economy has reduced spending amongst its money conscious clientele.

Up to 1,300 employees are expected to lose their jobs as the company works through the process of winding up its business.

Listed among the 19 stores to close are six in New Jersey, eight in Manhattan and one outlet located in Philadelphia. With the closures expected to take some months, Daffy’s are not able to give a final date for the liquidation.

The company will continue to pay staff full pay and benefits for up to two months. Daffy’s, which traditionally sells apparel for 80 percent off the normal retail price issued a statement which suggested that the weak economy and consequent low consumer confidence led to an erosion of its customer base with less discretionary funds to spend.

The liquidation continues a recent trend of closures for low cost fashion retailers lately. Syms Corp. and its parent company Filene’s Basement both were adjudged bankrupt towards the end of last year resulting in the closure of nearly 50 outlets. Filene’s Basement came out of bankruptcy briefly in late-2009 but found the economic conditions too tough to sustain a full recovery.

Marshal Cohen, head analyst with The NPD says that Daffy’s faced reduced income in the competitive budget sector when major brands began to diversify and indirectly target the cut-price outlet’s customers.

Airport scanners are something of a controversial issue, because they are seen as something that are protective for security, but many people argue that they are an invasion of privacy.

Some libertarians are saying that they take airport security too far, and are not worth the invasion of privacy, for the additional security that they offer. Travellers are also bothered by them because they delay the process of getting on the plane, and are in addition to the already extensive security measures that take place at an airport.

However, it seems as if they are about to find a place that is going to make them welcome among the population, as they are going to be used as a body scanner to measure people up for clothes. This is going to mean that very accurate measurements of the body can be taken, which will allow people to buy clothes online with a great deal more ease.

Shopping online has become the primary means of shopping for many people, although when it comes to clothes, even the most keen online shopper is nervous about doing it. This is because they do not have the option to try on the clothes, and they might be unsure about whether they are going to fit. This can lead to the clothes having to be returned, which is a great deal of hassle.

The body scanners could prevent this problem by providing an incredibly accurate measure of the body, and online clothes stores could then use this information to provide recommendations about what sort of clothes the person should be buying. This is likely to mean that far fewer clothes are going to be returned, and customers are going to have a much more satisfactory online clothes shopping experience.

Tips for Buying Clothing Online

September 13, 2012

11 Tips for Buying Clothing Online Back in the day you used to have to go down to the shopping centre or the high street to shop for new clothes. However, these days you can find tons of great deals on gorgeous outfits at nelly.com and other online fashion retailers.

Buying clothes online means that you can look through all of the new styles without having to drive to the shopping centre or wait in line at the tills. You can do all of your shopping in the comfort of your own home. If you are going shopping at nelly.com or anywhere else on the web, here are some tips to make the most of your shopping experience:

  • Know your measurements. Because you can’t try clothes on when shopping online, you will need to know exactly what your waist, hip and bust measurements are so that you can order clothes that fit.
  • Give yourself a little bit of wiggle room when taking your measurement which allows for errors.
  • If you find that your measurements fall between two different sizes, order the larger size from nelly.com  because it will allow you to make alterations if you need to.
  • Keep in mind that computer monitors vary and the colours that you are seeing might vary slightly on the actual item. If you are not sure what the exact colour is, contact the seller to find out.
  • If you can, buy several items of clothing at once so that you can avoid paying individual shipping charges. You can also do your shopping with online retailers that offer free shipping.
  • Only give your credit card information to safe online retailers who have secure and encrypted connections, such as nelly.com . This means that the website should start with https:// and have a padlock symbol in the corner of the screen.
  • Consider shopping on other types of sizes, such as eBay or other auction sites, to find a wide range of deals.
  • Look for sites which have their clothes photographed on a mannequin or on a real person. When you see clothes that are laid out on a flat surface it is hard to tell how they drape across a human body.
  • Don’t forget to note the material that the garment is made from. This will let you know whether or not it will be a hassle to clean, which might influence your decision to buy.

These are just a few important tips to remember when shopping online from a retailer such as nelly.com .
