The first indication, for many of us, that Christmas is just around the corner, is the numerous ads appearing on the television for everything from soft drinks to toddler toys. While some of this may be accompanied by a grimace at the thought that we really need to get our acts together and start putting our Christmas plans into action. There, are, however, those adverts we look forward to as they make us feel Christmassy and put a smile on our faces.

The Debenhams Christmas adverts most definitely fall into the latter category, as their message is put across in such a neat and succinct way that it evokes the Christmas spirit in all of us. This year is certainly no exception, and with the theme of Christmas made Fabulous, we see a young woman experiencing all those small but far from insignificant things that make her perfect Christmas.

As she passes through a town on her way to the railway station she sees a stunning gown in a small shop window, sees a group of revellers on a balcony, passes some girls all dressed up for a night out and next to the station in the one lit room of an otherwise darkened building, there are clothes designers hard at work. She smiles at the guy on the train trying to wrap a handbag then stairs wistfully out of the window as she approaches home.

On embarking from the train it starts to snow and as she gets closer to her home a tree suddenly lights up, closely followed by the entire outside of her home. A small boy rushes out to meet her and she is home. In the theme of the ad, Debenhams want to hear about your special Christmas moments, and by watching the video online you can click the link to enter the competition, and get the chance to make your own Christmas fabulous.

With the autumn cool air blowing in and the first frosts appearing, summer is now officially over and the start of the autumn and winter fashion season is now here. Designers at Debenhams are ready for shoppers if their new advert is any indication.

According to the new advert that runs for a very brief twenty-eight seconds, this season it is all about the coat and the shoes, and with good reason because the new wool coats featured on the girls in the ad, from top designers such as Betsy Jackson, are breath taking and stunning all at once.

The entire advert is light and simple with an upbeat tempo in the background and the girls in the advert are breezily strolling through their evening and day pointedly picking out some of the most suave and sophisticated styles that Debenhams has to offer this season.

Included in their picks is an amazing black and red coat by Betty Jackson that we see her pick off of the design studio mannequin before the women are seen a few seconds later wearing the items through the park.  Available in both a nice sultry red and a subtle black, both sharply fitting coats are made to flatter the figure and flatter they certainly do.

In fact, when combined with the Jonathan Kelsey clutch and a slick pair of ankle boots the coat is a pure knock-out and the clutch comes just as close.  The advert leads up to believe that the power combo is what helps the girl land her dreamy looking man, but the feminist would say it’s the confidence that the sharp outerwear gives the girl that helps her land the scrumptious man.  Either way, the new autumn line is going to be hard to beat this autumn at Debenhams so make sure to check it out.

If you have always wanted a designer wardrobe without paying designer prices, the new ‘Life Made Fabulous’ collection from Debenhams is just what you have been waiting for. There are currently two TV adverts running which show top designers John Rocha, Ben de Lisi, Henri Holland and Julien McDonald putting the finishing touches to the garments they have exclusively designed for the Debenhams autumn collection.

You are able to buy exquisite items from these top designers in both Debenhams stores and online from their website, and the full range encompasses so many styles that there really is something for everyone. If you are a fan of the clothes from the 60’s and 70’s you will find them in the ‘Life Made Fabulous’ range. Likewise, if retro casual is more you style there is plenty of choice for you too.

A great twist with this campaign is that when you watch the ads on the Debenhams website, you can buy the items instantly, and considering the amazing prices that these items are selling for, there is going to be an awful lot of clicking going on across the UK.

Henri Holland is one of the most renowned designers in the UK, and his H! collection is really something special. In the ads he lovingly caresses a pair of leopard skin pumps and a pair of brown ankle boots, available for only £25 and £65 respectively.

Julien McDonald is seen with a gorgeous 70’s retro style dress which is retailing at only £65, whilst Ben de Lisi’s 60’s inspired geometric block tunic will only set you back £45. The master who works under his self-titled Rocha John Rocha label is putting the finishing touches to a stunning white faux fur coat, ideal for the forthcoming winter and, staggeringly, only costing £120.

Debenhams, the leading UK clothing retailer, has revealed that its designer sales have been boosted by the credit crunch thanks to a new type of shopper; the recessionista.

Still keen to feed their fashion addiction, many shoppers are turning to designer equivalents according to Debenhams, that deliver quality, durability and design but with a ‘chic enomic’ price tag similar to ones offered exclusively at the 219 year old department store.

The retailer reported double digit sales growth across its Designer at Debenhams offer in the run up to Christmas, as well as seeing sales and profits increase and market share gains in all major clothing categories, while reducing its debt.

With purse strings ever tightening, many are seeing buying a handbag with a price tag that looks like a phone number as ‘so last season’ heralding the birth of a new consumer – the ‘recessionista’.

The unusual trend has seen some of Britain’s best loved designer names including Jasper Conran, Ted Baker, Matthew Williamson, Julien Macdonald and Jane Packer all contributing to market share gains and the overall performance of Debenham’s business.

“The birth of the recessionista is evidence that more and more customers are looking for good value, great design and clothing that’s built to last. Something that our trading figures released today back up and it’s also something that we are committed to continuing to deliver with our Spring/Summer 09 collections,” said Michael Sharp, Debenham’s deputy chief executive.

As a result, Debenhams has taken the unusual step of unveiling its exclusive Designer at Debenhams Spring/Summer ’09 ranges, for the first time before they go into stores.

Spring/Summer ’09 at Debenhams draws the latest influences from catwalks around the globe with a strong focus on wearability all with famous name designer influences but with high street price tags.

The designers at Debenhams identified several key trends for men and women that are predicted to be popular looks during Spring/Summer ’09. The trends for women include ‘Libertine’, a look epitomised by the likes of Peaches Geldof and Alexa Chung, which offers a casually cool vibe, combining distressed denims and a selection of statement belts. The ‘Glamazon’ trend, popularised by Beyonce Knowles and Heidi Klum, offers a laid-back yet glamorous take on hippy chic combined with jet set glam for Spring/Summer ’09. The ‘Exotica’ look, which fashion aficienados will recognise as a look sported by Jennifer Lopez and Eva Mendes is also set to be popular, providing relaxed casual pieces in the form of patterned shirts, loose kaftan style dresses and cropped trouser suits.

Among the trends predicted to be popular for men during the year’s Spring/Summer seasons is ‘Super Simple’, offering classic, yet modern, styling, bringing to mind the look of Daniel Craig. Pre-1930s decadence can be found with ‘Retro Resort’, which utilises superfine wool, cotton and linen and splashes of colour. For younger men, the ‘Urban Lad’ look will also be available, taking key fashion influences from military and work wear. ‘Geek Chic’ is also set to be a popular trend during this year’s Spring/Summer seasons, combining the colour clash of the ’70s with a modern ’50s style.
