Fashion tips for a royal-inspired wedding

With the start of spring and the warmer weather many women are starting to consider dress styles for upcoming events, including summer weddings.

Often the bride and groom set a theme for the wedding and, with so many great dress options available for guests, finding the right dress which also fits the theme can be quite hard to decide on.

Elisa Rhodes is the Assistant Dresses Buyer at M&S who recommends doing your research prior to selecting your wedding guest attire.

Inspiration for wedding themes this year is likely to be taken from a number of current events, for example the 1920’s look is predicted to be popular (perhaps due to the upcoming UK release of The Great Gatsby film) and so is a royally-inspired wedding theme.

Here, Elisa provides her top five tips for dressing for a Royally-inspired wedding theme:

- Navy and gold are set to be a popular colour theme for weddings this year due to the last royal wedding and the elegant, regal connotations of the colours.

- Navy offers a sophisticated twist on black whilst giving a slightly less conservative look

- Lace fabrics are also big news for wedding wear this year after Kate Middleton stunned in her gorgeous lace wedding dress

- Avoid any dresses which are too low cut – if the Duchess of Cambridge wouldn’t wear it, then it’s probably not fit for a royal-esque wedding

- Don’t forget a pair of nude or cream court shoes, a simple shoe which matches most outfits (and is a trusty staple favourite by Kate too)

Online-Exclusive Plus Size Range from Marks & Spencer

High street giant Marks & Spencer have introduced an exclusive online exclusive range of womens wear that are specifically catering for women who are sizes 20 – 28. The Plus Winter collection, which includes such items as dresses, skirts tops, trousers, cardigans, coats and suits, has all been designed to specifically flatter and fit the woman who is plus sized.

We are now in the season that is all about luxury and occasion, and this is reflected in the fabrics that are featured in the range, such as velvet, bold floral prints, sequins and velvet. With the predominant colour being black with accents of other colors, this range offers a combination of classic cuts with on trend prints and colours.

Danielle Hill is M&S dresses buyer and she says that while there will always be the classic black dress but it speaks volume about your fashion sense if you go for one of the bolder, eye-catching prints. Red is a key colour in the collection, and is featured in both solids and prints for a really warm yet perfect for winter feel.

Speaking of the inspiration behind the styles, she adds;

“Dresses that flare away from the body can balance out a larger upper torso” – The Scoop Neck Abstract Print Front Pleat Dress and the Scoop Neck Ombre Print Dress are a great option if you are top heavy.

“For a classy look, styles that finish around the knee help lengthen the body and subtle ruching at the waist can hide away problem areas” – The black Slash Neck Sequin Embellished Dress is a classic knee length with a ruched waist and an added touch of sparkle!

“Empire line dresses gives the illusion of raising the waist creating length to the body” – The Sleeveless Pleated Jersey Dress has a flattering V-shaped neckline too.

The M&S Clothes Exchange

The M&S and Oxfam Clothes and Soft Furnishings Exchange will raise more money for Oxfam to help people escape poverty around the world. This includes dealing with issues in more than 70 countries, ranging from campaigning against unfair trade rules that keep developing countries in poverty, to providing tools, seeds and skills to poor farmers. It also means helping vulnerable communities when disasters happen; supporting women’s rights in developing countries and working to tackle climate change and HIV and AIDS.

The Soft Furnishings Exchange supports one of Marks & Spencer’s key Plan A environmental objectives – to encourage recycling services and reduce the one million tonnes of textiles sent to landfill in the UK each year.

Vouchers not issued for M&S intimate apparel (such as underwear and swimwear), hosiery and socks that are donated to Oxfam.

One voucher is given per visit and vouchers are valid for one month.

The Special K Red Dress available at Marks & Spencer

We all want to get the perfect dress for the season, the one which makes us feel and look great and now some bright sparks in the buying industry have decided to give you what you have been after. Marks & Spencer has signed a deal with cereal giant Kellogg’s to create the first ever Special K red dress to go on sale to the general public.

That’s right, this stunning dress is now available in M&S stores and online. Launched last week the dress allows you to be your very own Special K girl. Special K, is famous for its iconic advertising featuring the “Special K girl” dressed in red and lucky for you we have celebrity Stylist Zoe Lem and the Head Buyer at M&S Lottie Tarpey at hand to give you some tops tips on how to wear the dress and make sure you look fabulous in it this summer.

Greg Peterson, managing director, Kellogg’s UK Marketing & Sales, explained: “Special K consumers have been asking us for years where they can buy the dresses featured in our advertising and this partnership with M&S has given us the opportunity to finally be able to offer women the chance to do so.”

A spokesperson from M&S said: “The M&S red dress is an extremely versatile summer essential which can be dressed up or down and is sure to flatter any figure. Ana Beatriz Barros is widely considered to be one of the most popular runway models given the fact that she is stunning and extremely successful.

In fact, throughout her career as a fashion model Barros has not only been given a few lusty glares, but also been the feature of several racy poses on many magazines such as ‘Sports Illustrated’ and many advertisements that include Armani Jeans, Diesel, Chanel, Victoria’s Secret, and Christian Dior.

Now, according to the latest reports she has made another large endorsement deal with the high end department store Marks & Spencer. In fact, the sultry Brazilian babe is set to become the new face of the chains lingerie line.

An inside source said that she is the perfect balance of exotic and sexy which appeals to women and men alike.

Barros will replace Noemie Lenoir, Laura Bailey, and Erin O’Connor.

She was discovered originally with her older sister while taking a holiday in Rio de Janerio at the age of 14. Soon after she launched her modelling career with Elite Model Management starting with a feature in the Millennium GUESS? advertising campaign.

Rumours stipulate that M&S plans to focus its advertising on must have pieces and seasonal trends and will focus on its spring time ad campaign.

Twiggy and Myleene Klass will still model for the new line at M&S.
