Little Mix, previously known as Rhythmix and currently being hailed as ‘the new Spice Girls’ are having quite a good year. The UK’s hottest girl band will be performing at T in the Park in July, along with a slew of other big and almost-big names in pop music. The girls have come a long way from X Factor tryouts, and not just in their music, but also, they say, in their sense of style and fashion.

The girls, Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock did not start out as a group; they auditioned separately on X Factor in 2011, but none made the cut as soloists. Judges decided to give them a group shot – in two different groups – and that didn’t quite do it either. But when the four were given their chance as one group they won, and the rest is (ongoing) history.

Little Mix was the first girl group in X Factor’s eight years to make it past the seventh live show and the first to win a series. The winning single, Damien Rice’s ‘Cannonball’, topped the charts and the girls went on to join judges Gary Barlow and Tulisa Contostavlos on stage as X Factor was awarded Best Talent Show at the National TV Awards in January 2012.

In between hit singles like ‘Wings’, ‘DNA’ and ‘Change Your Life’ the group produced an autobiography called Ready to Fly that was also a hit. Now they’re recording ‘How Ya Doin’ with Grammy Award winner Missy Elliot, which they all claim is the high point of their lives so far.

As for style and fashion, the girls also agree that X Factor wardrobe choices were ‘a disaster’ and they are finding individual styles that suit them much better. Jesy says she didn’t know or much care how she looked in those days, but now she’s into a lot of colour and combinations. She’s also into “ . . .bright lips and big, full eyelashes.” She loves make up and long eyelashes – and for sure all the Little Mixes are colourful, and their fans are loving it.
