Imagine Fashion website – a new platform for collaboration in the fashion industry

Coming in September 2010 a new fashion and film website will launch entitled Imagine Fashion (IF) which will offer a collection of inspired film editorials that are straight from some of the most prominent creative minds in the industries of photography, fashion, film, art, and music. The contributors to the website will be some of the pioneers and respected figureheads of their industries, offering unique views of fashion set in motion through the visual arts viewpoint.

The aim of IF is to provide a unique platform for a luxury and fashion publication to consciously collaborate around the barriers that usually exsiting in the fashion world, instead opening viewers up to the world of digitally viewed fashion. Due to the fact that culture and our surroundings often offer new parameters to judge fashion by, IF will be the first website/publication to offer a look at how the digital world cross-pollinates the way that we perceive fashions that exist around us.

The base of the film fashion site will be editorials that contain multiple layers of content so that users get a full rich experience with insight offered from exclusive sources about the best shopping, news, and new talents that are coming out before they actually break.

Each of these items is carefully crafted to make sure that it is the best out there with layout and aesthetic to match. After all, the top fashion journal online takes care to be fashionable itself.

Those who take a moment to look through the IF site will notice that all contributors at IF offer a creative passion that storms out of the screen through a wide collection of ideas so that both those with little fashion sense and those with vast knowledge of the industry walk away with new information. At the same time, the editors take great care to keep the films highlighted independent from mainstream views, instead offering only films that will alter the perception of viewers.

Thus, the films on the IF site offer a new vision through which fashion can be looked at as a design that integrates luxury, fashion, and artistic triumphs. Thus, viewers get a new way to look at a featured product seeing them in a new life and clearly identifying the venues through which they can purchase the items, or save them in an archive to be perused through at a later date.

The new environment of IF will only offer advertising to companies that are willing to be original and with depth so that partner brands get a premium environment that allows them to build real relationships with interested fashion consumers browsing the site. The audience that the IF site is aiming to attract are those with open minds ready to nurture the unique fusion of fashion inspirations that IF is able to create in its unique digital format.

Paris Fashion Week showing a lot of fur

Paris Fashion Week has barely gotten underway and already a large divide is forming between those watching the show, the fur sleeves issue.

Although many people may remember the days of Peta and supermodels who refused to wear animal skin, but it seems that with the amount of fur on the runway that in Paris such concerns are now yesterday’s news.

In fact, a large amount of designers seemed to have the same fashion inspiration in mind including Lanvin, Nina Ricci, and Gaspard Yurkievich all of whom along with others used fur sleeves on their jackets which outside of the fur were basic designs.

Outside of this signature look, the fashion season in Paris still feels pretty fresh with enough commercial appeal to sale the fashions. For example, one common fashion trend is heavy wool coats that tailor in at the waist placed overtop of decorative sheath tanks pieces.

Ina Ricci showed off some beautiful silk ensembles on dresses and tops in romantic rich colours such as deep red, aubergine, and purple.
Dries Van Noten also followed the trend with trousers and utilitarian coats which buckled over the stormy but soft colours and prints that his label is known for.

Eighties were another common theme on the catwalk with Studio 54 inspired silky jumpsuits from Gaspard Yurkievich and Lanvin’s large shoulders that towered gracefully over in line should dresses and coats. Also common throughout both lines were chunky tribal jewellery pieces and feathers seen everywhere including on earrings.

Julianne Moore and Zac Efron, who each served as a presenter during the the 2010 Oscars, were both wearing Calvin Klein.

Julianne Moore wore a custom antique white beaded strapless gown with crescent pleated detail designed by Francisco Costa, Women’s Creative Director, Calvin Klein Collection.

Zac Effron’s clothes were designed by Italo Zucchelli, Men’s Creative Director of the Calvin Klein Collection.

Naomi Campbell helping to sell Fashion for Relief T-shirts in aid of Haiti at Westfield London

Supermodel Naomi Campbell’s is hosting a pop-up shop at Westfield London for fashion Relief on 26th February. She will be lending a hand in selling the official Fashion for Relief T-shirt designed by Vivienne Westwood.

The T-shirts, which were unveiled last week at Naomi Campbell’s spectacular Fashion for Relief show at London’s Somerset House and worn on the catwalk by a host of celebrities including Dame Shirley Bassey, Beverley Knight, The Saturdays, Ronnie Corbett, Cesc Fabregas, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh from Girls Aloud.

Funds raised from the sales of the T-shirt, which retails at £40, will go to The White Ribbon Alliance to support the health needs and rights of women and girls around the world, with particular focus on its partners in Haiti, who at this time are helping to rebuild the healthcare system for mothers and babies.

Hayley Morley is comfortable with her size

Hayley Morley may be known for her row with a designer during London Fashion Week, but despite this fact she is now the one of the most in demand models across the UK.

She is also the new representative of the Evans fashion chain after being dismissed in years past as too heavy to walk the catwalk. In fact, after Morley signed on to model for Mark Fast, and in the past two designers from the team dropped out the night before the show.

At size 14, Morley is far more full-figured than a typical model that fits a size six. At first her appearance on the runway shocked fashion journalists and spectators alike, but at age 21 Morley now believes that the press coverage has had an overall affect on the fashion industry.

She was quoted in the past as saying that the effect of her presence in the show has been echoed across the world. In the coming week she will be modelling for French Marie Claire, which Morley feels shows that the models are now being booked for more jobs despite being curvy.

Although debate has continued to spread regarding whether Fast should have hired her for the show, Morley said that she focuses on enjoying her work and that she had a lot of fun working with Fast and his team. She also stated that she was shocked to find herself front page news although she makes it a point to ignore any negative press because she does not view herself as large, fat, or plus sized.

Prince Charles aims to be a woolly fashion icon

The royal family has always been famous for wearing a reasonable amount of wool, but now Prince Charles is taking a close look at the wool industry in an effort to create a green label for products that are made from wool.

Part of the plan by the Prince of Wales may be the addition of Wool Week to the fashion calendar precisely before the opening of the September London Fashion Week, in which wool would be promoted as a great fashionable fabric choice for winter clothing. Sponsoring the week potentially would be the department store chain Marks and Spencer.

Over the last few years wool has fallen out of the latest trends and the price for wool has dropped sharply. Prince Charles however hopes that by promoting the natural fabric it will once again become the popular choice for carpeting, rugs, and of course clothing.

In the past wool has had a bad rep for being itchy and somewhat bulky, but the Prince’s new plans for wool include highlighting its beauty and green benefits over the many synthetic fabrics that have now take over the fashion world. Additionally, the fact that new modern wool creations are much softer and sleeker will also be emphasized.

The news of the initiative comes along with the new ‘Naturally Green’ campaign which was launched by the British Wool Marketing Board. The report from the group shows that wool is more sustainable than both nylon and polypropylene fibres, making it not only the best choice for clothing, but also larger scale uses such as carpeting.

Selfridges banish plus size clothes

Selfridges has taken a risk at angering its female market by dropping its plus sized fashion line. As of now the popular retailer will no longer offer the Marina Rinaldi line, which is designed for women sizes 14 to 26. Now, the largest size available out of the other lines in the store is a 16 with a select few 18s still on the shelves.

The new decision makes Selfridges appear to believe that plus sized women are not good for their image.

According to the store, the Rinaldi line was removed in order to make room for more trendy slimmer lines of clothing. Given the evidence that women are actually growing in size both by width and height, it is an odd move for a major fashion store to ignore larger woman.

In fact, the National Sizing Survey found that the average waistline for a woman increased to 34in from 27.5in over the last fifty years. Hip size has also increased by about 1.5in and bust lines have also increased by an additional 1.5 reaching up to 38.5in.

Cheryl Hughes the head of plus modelling agency Hughes Models stated that over half of the women in the country require size 16 clothing and that it is ridiculous that Selfridges will not carry the size anymore.

Despite Selfridges’ choice, other British fashion stores have been more accommodating with sizes by increasing their clothing dimensions such as Marks & Spencer and TopShop. TopShop even went as far as to ‘supersize’ their clothes by making its size ten larger than the former size ten to fit the new average.

Christopher Bailey Designer of the Year

The designer who helped turn Burberry into a global label, Christopher Bailey, received the British Fashion Awards Designer of the Year award last night. This is the second time that Bailey has received the award, with his first win occurring in 2005.

The award was just the icing on the cake for Bailey who is 30 years old and has had a wonderful fashion year. He not only was in the Queen’s Birthday Honours at the beginning of the year where he received an MBE, and saw his 2010 Burberry summer collection hailed as the highlight of September’s London Fashion Week.

Last night Bailey also won the Designer Brand award, during which he announced that the Prorsum line from Burberry would also be seen at the London Fashion Week this coming February.

Model of the Year was taken home by Georgia May Jagger the daughter of Sir Mick Jagger after a year of success as the model for Hudson Jeans.

Other fashion figures that received awards include Grace Coddington the creative director of American Vogue who won the Isabella Blow Award and Kate Moss who received the public vote London 25 Award.

Also honoured was John Galliano winning the Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design and Kim Jones who won the award for Menswear Designer.

The BFC British Collection of the Year trophy was won by Christopher Kane who is responsible for designs from Donatella Versace and Topshop.

Many celebrities were in attendance at the biggest night in fashion including Victoria Beckham, Claudia Schiffer, and Kate Moss.
