30 year old London designer Erdem Moralioglu who has had designed clothes for notable figureheads Samantha Cameron, Sarah Brown, and Michelle Obama was announced this week as the recipient of the British Fashion Council/ Vogue Designer Fashion Fund.
The award includes a unique mentoring program to help the new designer achieve his or her business goals over the coming year, access to top notch mentors, an open network of career contacts, and a £200,000 prize which should help Moralioglu turn his creative business into a premier fashion brand.
The award is a part of the BFC ‘legacy programme’ to celebrate their 25th anniversary and help enhance the success of the rising stars within London while aiding in their business development.
Moralioglu was originally from Montreal and raised by an English mother and Turkish father. He studied fashion in both England and Canada receiving his master’s degree from the London Royal College of Art in 2003 after which he moved to New York to work with Diane Von Fursteberg. In 2005 he moved back to London to launch his own label.
Before too long the Erdem label became known for its mix of unusual colours and bold combinations that combined both floral prints and curvy intricate tailored effects topped off with embroidered designs.
His designer gowns won fans on the red carpet including Sienna Miller, Anna Friel, Kirsten Dunst, and Keira Knightley due to the fact they were feminine and delicately pretty within being too sweet for professional wear.
