An Interview with an Independent Beauty Consultant

It’s no secret that women love cosmetics! In fact, for some the love of cosmetics outweighs shoes and bags which also feature quite prominently on most women’s wish lists.

However, with the current economic climate and with lots of people changing their attitude towards spending, are we now seeing a situation develop where women will stop buying cosmetics?

An interview with Hayley Anderson, an Independent Beauty Consultant sheds some light on this intriguing question.

Do you think that women will ever cut cosmetics out of their spending budget?

No way! It’s a natural thing for all of us to want to look, smell and feel good (women especially) so I don’t think women will ever give up buying cosmetics all together.

But surely even women’s spending habits are changing in the current climate?

I’d agree with that statement. Whereas in times gone by a woman would spend lots of money on cosmetic products and then go out and spend £50-60 on nights out at the weekend, many women are choosing to cut back on the booze and use that money to make themselves feel good.

It is this shift in attitude that has helped Independent Beauty Consultants like Hayley to stay in business. One of Hayley’s most profitable areas of her business is the pamper parties that she holds.

Tell us a bit about your pamper parties? I’d always thought they were a little bit old fashioned?

I absolutely love the pamper parties. They are nothing like the traditional Tupperware parties that many people think of! The beauty of them is that each one is unique. I am usually contacted by someone who has heard about my service and I spend a bit time talking with them to find out what they want from the party. Some women want a chilled night in with a few friends and a bottle of wine or others choose a theme for their party so I listen and give my suggestions. Once the hostess knows who she is inviting, I contact each attendee individually to find out about their skin type and profile. This means I will have the right products with me on the night. I also ask the hostess what products from my range she would like as a gift or I offer her the opportunity to get a discount on her order based on the sales I make that night.

But aren’t home parties all about someone coming in and pressuring you to buy lots of products?

Not with my parties! My typical party starts with a brief 5 minute overview of my role and then a 20-30 minute skin care class where I allow women to use the products that I sell and do a facial makeover on themselves. I throw in a couple of games for attendees to win themselves some prizes along the way. We usually have nibbles and refreshments afterwards (depending on the hostess’ requirements).

But surely then comes the hard sell?

No, not at all. Following the class, I have an individual consultation with each attendee (usually in a private room whilst others are enjoying the refreshments) to discuss what they thought of the session and the products. Some women love them but cannot afford everything we tried so I look at tailoring a package for their budget.

But what if someone cannot afford to buy anything at the end of your party?

That’s fine with me. My idea is not to force anyone to buy. I just hope they enjoy the evening. I usually have a few goodies for each attendee to takeaway so nobody leaves completely empty handed. I also give attendees the opportunity to earn ‘hostess credits’ by hosting their own party in the future – this idea usually goes down well. I’ve also got a website where people can go and buy the products when the time is right for them.

So it definitely seems that women are certainly not ready to give up their cosmetic purchases even if things do get a little bit tight in the money department. And these pamper parties sound like a great way to enjoy a night in with your friends, try some great products and possibly bag a few bargains and freebies along the way.

Hi, meticulous article, you put up all the same if you don’t mind I’d add few notes about approaches girls or guys. Particularly it can be powerful when it occurs to man woman relationships. The significant thing is your posture, which should be strong and active. If you have an posture like that, any soul shouldn’t mark any difficultness that you have addressing as pointing. When you get a conversation, you usually desire to need safe wonders that are confident not to cause her any irritation. Once the conversation gets some momentum, you can exact more physical queries. A good illusion is to memorize some questions she made a point of so whenever the conversation slows up, you can mention one of these questions.
