Peter Jensen first arrived on the fashion scene around a decade ago after graduating with a Masters degree from Central Saint Martins. He was a distinguished academic and after graduating in 1999 he went on to set up his own label in 2001.
He has become known for the names that he gives to his collection of womenswear, as they are each named after an unlikely heroine. One of the collections that he has created has been named after Jodie Foster and references to her character can be seen in the collection quite literally. One of the items is a grey sweatshirt and this is in a very similar style to the one she wore in the beginning of The Silence of the Lambs when she was playing the role of Clarice Starling.
There is no question that Jensen has a very individual take on the fashion world and his muses are definitely unorthodox. He has recently published a new book and it is not the typical large, coffee table style book that you might expect. It is actually small enough to be carried around in a handbag or even read in the bath. Inside are detailed some of the finest moments in his career and the book is very well formed.
Details of what has happened on the catwalk as well are backstage are included and are very revealing. The book has been written with his business partner and friend, Gerard Wilson who helped select many of the pictures that have made it into the book.
To celebrate the 10 year anniversary since starting his fashion label a show will be being held featuring some of his older pieces as well as some new ones. The event is taking place at the suitably grand Victoria and Albert Museum, as part of a larger exhibition.
