The concept of displaying fashion has been around for almost forever. Initially it used to be a concept that stores used to show off their clothes during tea or lunch. But today, the number has increased considerably. Ever designer has at least four shows every year if not more. It is not just a show but now has evolved into a full fledged event where anybody who is everybody meets together at a certain spot and talk about fashion among other things. Designs are created, trends are set, and the world follows. It is the media that makes these shows immensely popular. Earlier, it was a show that would make or break a shop. But still, not a lot of people came to know about it since it was usually small and only those considered the ‘elite’ would ever attend them. But today, the popularisation of fashion shows is due to the fact that designers want to take their designs to the street. Their popularity reaches a peak when even the masses want to wear a particular design created.
But there are still certain boutiques that still have their small little shows where their latest designs stocks are show cased on models and on racks. These small firms are geared towards the public rather than just celebrities. They have more wearability value rather than upscale designers’ stuff.
Models
Of course the designs are the most important part of a fashion show, but today, the models create even more of a sensation. They are the lucky few who get to wear the trendiest and the best of clothes before any one else could ever get hold of them. Their size and their bodies are forever under scrutiny. They are criticised if they are too thin and if they are just the right size, they are called ‘fat’. Certain countries no longer want models that are a size zero since they are considered anorexic while there are others who insist on size zero models. If there are any wardrobe malfunctions, it is the model that gets criticised rather than the designer. But today, the AMA has given certain regulations for the perfect size of both male and female models. The vital statistics of a female model should be 34-24-34 while the weight of a male model should be between 140 and 165 pounds.
Fashion Weeks
A fashion week is one of the most important times of every designer every year. This is the time when more people travel to attend the shows rather than for just an individual show. The designs are scrutinised more than ever and the pressure is very intense. This is when reporters and fashion pundits from all over the world attend this. Major buyers for shows get their first pick of clothes with these fashion weeks. Every country has their own fashion weeks and are sponsored by cosmetic brands looking for some publicity.
Fashion runways are major events which require a lot of hard work and those involved undergo a lot of pressure. But they also set trends for the world to follow so end up adding spice to the lives of the bored!
