You can run, you can hide, but you just can’t escape it! Its summer and its time to show some skin. Just the thought of all those imperfections that we have been hiding behind can get anyone running for those scarves and trench coats.
Fix those Flaws
New formulae and application techniques now make self tanning one of the best inventions ever. It’s great for curing some of the peskiest beauty problems.
Flaw to be fixed: Under eye Circles
How it really works: It darkens the rest of the skin so that the dark circles just blend in.
What to avoid: Try and stay away from slathering on too much tanner. Just a drop added in the moisturizer is good enough to hide those raccoon eyes.
Try: Elizabeth Arden Daily Bronzer Self Tanning Boost for the Face is a great option. Clinique’s True Bronze Bronzing Gel for the Face gives a natural look without looking too make-upey
Flaw to be fixed: Cellulite or a little extra weight
How it really works: Tanner works like a pair of stockings or panty hose which creates the illusion of stream lines and slimness. It gives the skin an extremely uniform albeit dark colour and hides the indentation of cellulite.
What to avoid: Streaking must be avoided at all costs. For this exfoliation is the key word. A tinted gel is great for missed spots.
Try: Environmental Shield Self tanner with SPF 15. It saves time by helping skip the step of applying sunscreen.
Flaw to be fixed: Uneven skin tone
How it really works: Acts like foundation hiding imperfections. With the new improved formulae, it is possible to get a realistic tan that is not orangey.
What to avoid: Avoid applying too much. It’s advisable to start with a light tanner and slowly build up the colour every few days.
Try: Banana Boat Sunless tanning Crème, Clarins Instant Self Tanning Gel. They dry quickly and are easy to apply. Best of all, they are non comedogenic. Won’t clog pores.
Get Golden and Ramp Perfect
It is possible to avoid some of the most common self tanning goofs:
1. Give Away Winter White- Use a cream or lotion or gel. Try and avoid sprays and clear and white formulas.
2. Buildup- The first step to avoid the dark uneven application around ankles and elbows is to exfoliate. A good scrub is necessary to remove the hard skin around these areas. Next is to moisture. A good heavy duty moisturizer is needed here. Only then apply the self tanner.
3. Eeky Palms and Nails-Always wear rubber, latex or plastic gloves while tanning. If gloves are not available, remember to scrub hands and nails with a brush really well.
4. Marks on Clothes- The only reason this happens is because of bad timing. Never apply tanner in the morning. The best time to do this is before going to bed. Preferably at least half an hour earlier. Remember to wear old, already soiled clothes to sleep. Expect to be a blooming brown the next morning.
