The latest film from BAFTA award winning actress Vicky McClure, is somewhat different from what we are used to seeing her in. She has teamed up with the cutting edge and uber trendy make up brand Illmasqua to take us on a voyage of discovery to release your alter ego and sacrifice your old self in order to live a new and enlightened life.
Vicky says she was drawn to campaign as Illmasqua had a reputation of doing things differently, and this particular film as shot with a very beautiful and cinematic feel to it, which attracted the actress to it instantly. The premise of the film is to show how Illmasqua make up can bring about such massive changes in your life that you feel as if you have been reborn.
The film is delivers both disturbing and thought provoking images which have you desperate to know what happens next. Delivered through flashbacks, we see the steps this woman ads taken on her own personal journey to a new life. It has the essence of a French arthouse film as various images come into focus, and it isn’t until the very end that it all comes together and we see the woman as she is now.
The main scenes show her sitting with a coffee in a diner thinking back over what she has done. She drives, she drags a body across a field and onto a boat, she rows out to the centre and pushes the body over the side. She drops a torch in the process which illuminates the dark waters enabling us to see that the body is a woman, and the close up of the bare face with open eyes staring yet unseeing reveals that is she herself, and this is her last farewell to her old persona.
