bf Vogue and BFC put up cash prize for young designersBritish Vogue magazine and the British Fashion Council have teamed up to support the upcoming global stars of fashion, in a new project called the BFC Vogue Designer Fashion Fund.

The fund will give a chosen new British designer £200,000 to work with, along with mentoring support to help get their work seen on an international scale.

The new project fund is similar to awards given by the Council of Fashion designers of America and US Vogue, which has helped to boost the careers of Roderte, Alexander Wang, and Jason Wu.

Adding significance to the new BFC Vogue Designer Fashion Fund is the fact that it has been launched to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the London Fashion week.

Applicants who want to be placed in the hat for the BFC Vogue Designer Fashion Fund must already have an established business, be UK based, and already have a strong media profile.

As part of the application process they must be able to describe how they would use the fund to increase global recognition of their brand.

The submission date for applications will end on December 2nd, after which a committee formed of industry experts and patrons, will choose a shortlist of potential winners. From this list, the finalists and winners will be formally announced in the month of April 2010.

The chairman of the BFC, Mr. Harold Tillman, stated that the fund was announced last September as part of the 25th anniversary celebration. He continued to say that at this time it was just a scheme, but now due to the support from British Vogue it is a reality.
