X Factor, the show, has apparently been losing some of its popularity, but wait: now it’s part of a new fashion fad to the extent that it seems like half the celebs in Hollywood and the U.K. are sporting X Factor prints. Well, maybe not. Actually the design turns out to be the work of a French designer, Isabel Marant, and the print is not the X Factor logo as originally suspected, but a design based on a native American motif.
Whatever it is, it’s showing up all over the place. First it was seen this week at LAX when reporters spotted Cheryl Cole with the skin-tight pants in a print that had a lot of observers speculating about her motives and postulating a possible dig at Simon Cowell, who fired her from the U.S. X Factor show a few months ago. That rumor in turn was squashed when the real origins of the pants were discovered.
Only a day later, Nicole Richie was photographed in LA, leaving a hair salon in pants that looked just like Georgie’s. Then Hilary Duff showed up on ‘Good Morning America’ with yet another version of the rather eye-catching pattern. The look is either white or black with bright embroidery etching out the Navaho designs, they’re sprayed on, they’re called the Renell embroidered skinny jeans and they list on the designer’s website for £395.
While each of the celebs showed off their Marants in her own style and with totally different accessories, the vivid prints are getting a lot of exposure, and the fashion aficionados are just waiting to see who else is going to go for it.
Meanwhile, Hilary has other things on her mind, and other fashion ensembles to match her mood and the activity du jour. She’s promoting her new book entitled ‘Devoted’, and she showed up at a Barnes & Noble book signing in red and black velvet, a dress this time, with spotted black tights, showing off her burgeoning belly and identifying with the main character in her book.
She said her protagonist, Clea, is just a young woman trying to find out who she is, which is pretty much what Hilary is doing too. She said it’s a matter of writing about what you know, and since she and Clea have both traveled a lot, and are always trying to prove themselves, she’s doing just that.
Hilary also had some praise for husband Mike Comrie, giving him credit for supporting her literary efforts and being really helpful going for coffee and all. She says he doesn’t try to get involved in her writing, but he’s good about catering to her pregnant food cravings, which she gets “ferocious” about when the mood is on her.
